Eugene Delacroix
French Romantic Painter, 1798-1863
For 40 years Eugene Delacroix was one of the most prominent and controversial painters in France. Although the intense emotional expressiveness of his work placed the artist squarely in the midst of the general romantic outpouring of European art, he always remained an individual phenomenon and did not create a school. As a personality and as a painter, he was admired by the impressionists, postimpressionists, and symbolists who came after him.
Born on April 28, 1798, at Charenton-Saint-Maurice, the son of an important public official, Delacroix grew up in comfortable upper-middle-class circumstances in spite of the troubled times. He received a good classical education at the Lycee Imperial. He entered the studio of Pierre Narcisse Guerin in 1815, where he met Theodore Gericaul Related Paintings of Eugene Delacroix :. | Der Tod Laras | Lion Hunt | The Shipwreck of Don Juan (mk05) | Attila and his Hordes Overrun Italy and the Arts | Jacob Wrestling with the Angel | Related Artists: Jusepe Martinez1600-1682 kristina forstenDenis van Alsloot (Dutch: Denijs van Alsloot) (c. 1570, Mechelen - c. 1626) was a Flemish Baroque painter.
He initially painted using the style of Gillis van Coninxloo, but after 1610 gradually developed a style of his own. This style can be seen in paintings such as The feast of the Ommegang (Museo del Prado, Madrid) and Procession to Mary at the Zavel in Brussels (Victoria and Albert Museum, London).
At the beginning of the 17th century, in either 1600 or 1606, his career rose when he served as court painter to Albert and Isabella.
Hendrick de Clerck sometimes painted the people (Dutch: stoffering or stoffage) in his landscape works.
Van Alsloot's work can be regarded as a precursor to modern Landscape art.
